LOCKED - AS Work Anaylsis

For our AS work we had to create a opening sequence that could be a genre of our choice that had to be around 3 minutes long. My group and I decided to a psychological horror, as it seemed like an interesting genre that we could get creative with, which we named LOCKED:

What Went Well?

I think our sequence was a genre that had not been done yet as we added a psychological twist to a horror so we could be as creative as we wanted and I think we managed to show the genre very well. One of my favourite scenes is when our protagonists gets grabbed. This scene was difficult to edit as the shot when our protagonist gets grabbed had to flow into the next one when no-one was there and the editing had to be precise and I, personally, think it really works and represents the genre very well. I think we also used a variation of shots to make our sequence more visually interesting to watch for the audience.

Even Better If...
I, personally, think that the narrative could have been sped up a bit more at the beginning as in some places is was a bit slow. Some cuts end to quickly so they are only briefly shown. and this could have been improved by filming longer shots and spending more time editing that particular scene. The lighting also changes throughout the sequence which takes away the dark feeling to the sequence as some scenes are lighter than others.

Overall I think the sequence was successful as we managed to represent psychological horror through both cliches but also new ideas to keep it different and exciting. The sequence was interesting to edit and was a great challenge for me but I enjoyed it overall as it was nice to see all of the footage come together.
