Green Screen Practise

Today we practised using the green screen for the first time by recording someone lip-syncing to a song for 30 seconds in front of the green screen and changing the green to a image of our choice. We had a short tutorial to follow which turned out to be a simple process. We chose a simple field of flowers to be our background but then later added a space theme alongside the field to see if we could follow the process without using the tutorial. Here is our 30 second clip:
We had a small problem with the shadow being in the background therefore ruining the green screen effect. We did manage to remove part of it with some effects but I have learnt that the lights must be placed in a certain way to prevent a shadow forming and will make the overall effect look smoother.

EDIT: Unfortunately the footage was lost before it could be uploaded to the blog

Music Video Ranking

Our first task in preparing to create our own music video was to rank the previous years videos. This task provided us with an inside of what to and not to do when making our own video. The two videos that I enjoyed the most were "Ike & Tina - Jamie T" and "What We Started - JK Aquino". Both videos had good lip sync as well as telling a story through creative camera shots:

When making my own videos I hope to take some aspects shown in these videos and adapt them to fit my groups video. However there were some videos that I think could gave used more variation with their back grounds and camera shots. Because of this repetitive shots it looks like they recorded the video in three different locations in one go and then put them into smaller pieces. These videos, however, have taught me that I should use a variation of different shots in various locations and costumes to make the audience drawn to the video and will want to watch the entire sequence.
